Understanding the design of Cascada
Mezcals and tequilas are the most complex spirits in the world. They deserve to be tasted and enjoyed from a vessel that will truly highlight their aromas and flavors - for the ultimate tasting experience.
Over three years of extensive research & experimentation, collaborating with tasting experts, and testing of hundreds of shapes, we have developed a highly functional and technical glass. This new design is specifically engineered to amplify the aroma and taste experience of tequilas and mezcals.
Our Process
The design development of Cascada was a unique collaborative process between tasting experts, industrial designers, and master glass blowers. Through rapid prototyping and innovative hand-blown testing glasses, a multitude of shapes were evaluated with a wide range of agave spirits to determine the ideal combination of form and function.
Research touched upon aroma capture and directional flow, lip geometry for optimal sip delivery, volume-to-surface ratios that balance evaporation and concentration, and the tactile ergonomics that guide how the glass is held.
Sensory panels informed iterative refinements: balancing narrow necks to focus volatile compounds with subtly flared rims to release complex top notes and reduce ethanol burn.
The final design synthesizes these findings into a single, elegant silhouette that amplifies the nuanced character of tequila and mezcal while remaining beautiful, durable, and intuitive to use.
How to use Cascada
Mezcales and Tequilas are the world’s most diverse spirits—made from hundreds of agave species and shaped by regional traditions. There’s no single “right” way to taste them. Cascada worked with agave spirits and tasting experts to create a clear, repeatable protocol anyone can use to assess and compare tequilas and mezcales.
Three simple steps: swirling to enable aeration of the spirit, exploring the nose to reveal layered aromas + levels of ethanol burn, and tasting for primary flavor families. By using the agave flavor wheel alongside a concise scoring framework, tasters can record observations consistently across different spirits and glass types.
